ARTIST PROFILE

About the Artist

Melissa Hood is a painter and author from Point Pleasant, New Jersey. She has a bachelor’s degree in Art and Secondary Education with a Special Education Endorsement from Georgian Court University. Melissa completed her Master’s degree in Studio Art at New York University’s study abroad program where she attended two semesters in Venice, Italy, and one semester in Berlin, Germany. Melissa’s art has been showcased in galleries throughout the tristate area and sold worldwide.
Melissa teaches art full-time for Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools.  Outside of the classroom she is a prolific painter and focuses on showing her art at festivals, in galleries and online.
Melissa employs a variety of techniques including acrylic painting and drawing with acrylic markers to create vibrant and whimsical scenes. Melissa has spent years perfecting her craft with Posca Paint markers. 
Melissa’s art celebrates her joy for life and adoration for color and texture. Her goal is to spread happiness through art and to share her excitement for the places and animals in which we share this world.
Melissa is also a wife and mother of two boys. She and her family love the outdoors and their dogs Squid and Minnow. When Melissa isn’t busy teaching, parenting, and painting, she enjoys running.
